SPC files FIR against social media user for inciting hatred against press fraternity
The Shillong Press Club (SPC) on Thursday filed an FIR against a social media user for trying to incite hatred against the press fraternity.
The complaint was submitted to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger by members of the SPC Executive Committee.
In the FIR, SPC president David Laitphlang informed that one Lester JK Ryngki had posted an instigating statement (written in Khasi) against the press fraternity on a facebook group – ‘Ka Sur U Paidbah’
He said that the transcript of the profane text tantamount to direct incitement of hatred and mayhem against the Press Fraternity and this has been taken very seriously by one and all.
“Therefore, keeping this in mind, this FIR is being filed before your esteemed self for suitable action against the perpetrator as per the laws of the land,” Laitphlang said.
“May we also humbly suggest that perhaps it is time that such evil thoughts, ideas and reckless statements are put under a proper scanner by the designated authority and checked as directed by the law in time, before they corrode the minds of the scores of innocents still around. We trust that you in your wisdom will treat this matter as most urgent and punish the perpetrator suitably so that in future such acts are never repeated by anyone,” he stated in the FIR.
