Speaker asserts need to take all stakeholders on board for resolving border dispute
Assembly Speaker and United Democratic Party (UDP) chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday said all stakeholders have to be taken into consideration to resolve the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.
“…all stakeholders have to be taken into consideration (before taking a decision on whether to go with the give and take policy) to ensure we clear this long pending issue that is my concern and advise as far as this issue is concerned,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
Urging all concerned not to play politics on this issue, the UDP chief said many attempts have been made in the past by previous chief ministers but they could not bring any solution to this problem.
“That is why everybody should be taken into confidence as far as this issue is concerned and not play politics anymore,” he said adding “This is a serious issue…we have to put sincere efforts to ensure the boundary issue is resolved.”
On Monday, the Speaker had also called on the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma at Guwahati and extended best wishes for his new assignment.
Asked, Lyngdoh said that both of them also discussed about this boundary issue which has been pending for the past 50 years keeping in mind that everybody is looking forward to see which government can solve this vexed problem.
The Speaker said he had expressed serious concern about the issues related to the problems faced by the people living in the border.
He informed that the Assam CM also expressed similar concern and has assured to take up the matter at a very fast pace.
