Sponsor an athlete programme launched in East Jaintia Hills

In order to boost the morale of the promising sportspersons of the district, the East Jaintia Hills District Administration launched the Sponsor-an-athlete programme through which different entities will be encouraged to sponsor the preparation of one particular athlete.

As a start, a total of 15 such sponsorships were announced including from NETC, Local MLA Kyrmen Shylla, Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, IPS etc.

The announcement of sponsorship was made in a felicitation program organized on Tuesday for the local athletes who have won medals in the recently held Meghalaya Games and State level Inter-School Athletics Meet.

During the programmes, cash awards were also presented to a total of 62 athletes for bringing laurel to the district in the sporting arena.

To further encourage the athletes, Sponsor-an-athlete program was also launched by the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Through the Sponsor-an-athlete program, efforts will be made to cover other promising athletes as well in the future.

Shylla announced an aid of Rs 5 lakhs to the District Sports Office which will be dedicatedly used for purchasing sports gears/ equipment for the different athletes across the district.
