Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri unveils theme song and mascot for Meghalaya Games
Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri unveiled the theme song and mascot “U Kiang” for the 6th Meghalaya Games during the curtain-raiser held on Monday at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.
The theme song, “Niom Beit Naphang,” captures the spirit of sportsmanship and unity, while the mascot “U Kiang” symbolizes the indomitable spirit of a freedom fighter.
Local MLA and Chairman of MUDA and Adviser of the District Level Organising Committee, Wailadmiki Shylla; Working President of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), John Kharshiing; Vice President of MSOA and Chairperson of the State-Level Reception Committee, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya Matsiewdor War Nongbri; MSOA General Secretary Finely Pariat; Deputy Commissioner B.S. Sohliya, IAS; Superintendent of Police C. Syrti, MPS; headmen of various localities in Jowai town; and other organizers were present.
In his address, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri emphasized the importance of investing in sports infrastructure and youth development. He highlighted that sports instill discipline, build character, and foster unity among the youth. Recognizing the transformative role of sports in community building, he noted that the State government has prioritized investments in sports infrastructure and funding for sports associations.

The Minister outlined the government’s strategy to maximize the use of existing facilities in schools and colleges rather than constructing new venues. He explained that repurposing current infrastructure would benefit educational institutions and local communities long after events conclude.
Shakliar Warjri also shared the government’s vision of empowering the youth to excel in sports not only at the state level but also on national platforms. While acknowledging that the impact of these measures would take time to materialize, he reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing athletes and fostering their growth.
He praised the collective efforts of government officials, local representatives, and community organizations in supporting this vision and extended his best wishes to the athletes preparing for the upcoming events.

Later, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri, accompanied by Local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla and organizers, inspected several venues to assess the readiness and arrangements for the upcoming National Games.
Adding a melodious touch to the occasion, the Elev8 Tribes Choir presented two musical performances.
