Sports Minister takes a cycle ride, inaugurates selfie stand at Khyndai-Lad
Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Thursday took a cycle ride from the main secretariat to Khyndai-Lad where he inaugurated the selfie stand of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) and Department of Sports & Youth Affairs.
The purpose of the selfie stand was to urge the citizens of the state to join the country in ” I #Cheer4India” and its 127 indian olympic athletes competing among the best in 18 disciplines and to allow youths, athletes, citizens of Meghalaya to express their support for the @WeAreTeamIndia through the selfie stands.
Lyngdoh was accompanied by the MSOA working president John F Kharshiing, general secretary Chiranjib Choudhury and officials of the Meghalaya State Cycle Association.
Also present on the occasion was Director, Sports & Youth Affairs WAM Booth and officers of the DSYA.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said, “We are here to inaugurate the selfie stand as a mark to support the team India so that they bring medals for the nation.
Kharshiing said, “India is a young country at the Olympics and we hope, pray and keep our fingers crossed that we will cross the double digit.”
“We hope they will bring medals for the country and this will inspire our children to aspire to become Olympians,” he added.
Later, the minister also inaugurated another selfie stand prepared by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs at the JN Stadium besides distribution of prizes to the winners of the quiz.
The MSOA has also announced a lottery with a cash prize for the three winners and requested the citizens to send their selfie pictures taken at the selfie stand to whatsapp mobile number 7005304227.
