SSA teachers stage sit-in-protest over non release of salary
SSA teachers under the banner of the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) on Thursday staged a sit-in-demonstration in the state capital as a mark of protest against the government’s delay to release their five-month salary.
Speaking to reporters during the protest, AMSSASTA president L Marngar said over 12,541 teachers are at the receiving end due to the failure of the government to release their salaries.
“Due to this, teachers across the state have been compelled to protest against this indifferent attitude of the government,” he said.
Referring to the recent statement of the education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui that non-payment of salary was due to the Centre’s delay in releasing the funds to the state, Marngar however said, “It is the duty of the state government to find out ways and means to clear the salary of the teachers.”
“I am also surprised by the claim made by the minister that the state government will release our salary before Christmas since the officials of the department at the district level are not aware of such a decision of the government,” he said.
Meanwhile, Marngar said that the association has also demanded the government to release the five month salary in one go failing which it will have no other option but to intensify agitations in the state.
