SSA teachers to request release of salary with post card to PM
SSA Teachers of as many as 5814 Lower Primary Teachers and 6727 Upper Primary Teachers teaching in 5166 SSA Schools in the state of Meghalaya who is yet to receive their salary for 5 months from August to December this year. They had been facing several financial problems and had to render money from their relatives and friends to manage their everyday expenses.
The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Central Body has decided to launch a Post Card Campaign to Prime Ministers of India Office from 15th December, 2020 onwards through Offline and Online mode to protest against Ministry of Education, DSE&L, Govt of India for delaying to release the funds of 1st Instalment of Govt of India share to the State of Meghalaya which 12541 SSA teachers are suffered without salary for 5 months.
“We have represented the issue of non-payment of salaries to concerned authorities multiple times and recently during the meeting of the Association with the State Project Director, SEMAM-SSA on December 2, SPD informed the Association that due to delaying of Ministry of Education, Govt of India to release the funds of 1st installment’ to the State of Meghalaya, SEMAM-SSA is not in a position to pay the 5 months pending salary to SSA teachers. SPD also informed despite all the necessary requirements has been sent by the State Government to Ministry of Education and several meetings and discussion with the Official of the Ministry the condition remains the same”. SPD also informed the Association, SEMAM-SSA is trying to release the salary to SSA Teacher’s before Christmas Festival subjected to funds to be received from Ministry,” Aristotle C Rymbai President Meghalaya SSA Schools Association said.
He also said, “Last Thursday I have communicated with the Official of SEMAM-SSA, Shillong which we came to know that the funds is still lying with the Ministry of Education, Govt of India and the SEMAM Official also stated if Ministry failed to release the funds within a period of 2 or 3 days releasing of salary before Christmas Festival will not be possible and to pressurize the Ministry for immediate release of funds we have decided to launch a Post Card Campaign to the Prime Ministers Of India Office.”
“In the present situation of COVID-19 Pandemic, teachers had been finding it hard to manage their daily expenses of their families. Also, the pressure is coming from all angles, the school’s authority of their children have started demanding to clear the school fees, some teachers are facing problems to pay the medical expenses of their kids and families members and many more. In the past 3 to 4 months we would at least borrow money from lenders, shopkeepers, etc., but now, no one is willing to oblige because SSA teachers are in debt from head to toe,” Aristotle added.
