SSSSO Meghalaya celebrates Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 99th birthday in Shillong
The Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations (SSSSO), Meghalaya, celebrated the 99th birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba on November 23 at Prasanthi Sadhana Nilayam, Shillong, with a vibrant and spiritually enriching gathering. Part of a global network present in over 120 countries, the SSSSO follows the guiding principles of “Love All, Serve All” and interfaith harmony.
The day began early with a Nagar Sankirtan at 5:20 AM, followed by Vedam Path and a series of bhajans by the Jhalupara and Nongmynsong Bhajan Mandalis. The celebrations were further enhanced by participation from Jai Mata Di Parivar and Art of Living Meghalaya. A large congregation of devotees gathered, united in faith and service.
A key feature of the celebration was Narayana Seva, where over 800 individuals were served food, with additional distribution at Ananda Marga School in Nongmynsong, underscoring the organisation’s commitment to social welfare.
Hemango Dutta, District President of SSSSO Meghalaya, highlighted the organisation’s initiatives over the past year, including the adoption of rural villages (Gram Seva) for holistic development, Sadhana Camps for spiritual growth, plantation drives for environmental conservation, and educational programs aimed at promoting selfless service.
Looking ahead to the centenary of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s birth in 2025, Dutta unveiled plans to expand Narayana Seva, strengthen Gram Seva initiatives, increase Sadhana Camps, and enhance environmental sustainability through extensive plantation drives. Further emphasis will be placed on youth empowerment via educational workshops and service-oriented activities.
The SSSSO’s journey in Northeast India dates back to 1969 when a delegation of village heads from NEFA (now Arunachal Pradesh) visited Prasanthi Nilayam and received a blessing from Sri Sathya Sai Baba, symbolized by the materialization of five metal discs enshrined in the Donyi Polo Mandir’s foundation, a symbol of interfaith unity.
Rooted in the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the organisation continues to live by the principles of higher consciousness, selfless service, and interfaith harmony. The centenary celebrations in 2025 will further promote his message of universal love and compassion.
