St. Edmund’s College raises awareness on substance abuse
The Department of Social Work-PG, St. Edmund’s College organized an “Awareness Programme on Substance Abuse” on March 16, 2024, in Lumdiengjri locality, Shillong.
Colloborating with the Manbha Foundation and Seng Samla of Lumdiengjri, the event was sponsored by the Directorate of Social Welfare under the Drug Reduction Elimination and Action Mission (DREAM), East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya.
Over 130 people attended the programme, including students from schools and colleges, as well as community members.
During the programme, resource persons, including Ashish, IPS, SDPO (Sadar), East Khasi Hills District; Dr. Rica Lamar, Psychiatrist and founder of Manbha Foundation; Andrew, Counsellor; Jerrimaiah Nongrum, Community Leader of Manbha Foundation; and Bashngainlang Chyne from the Social Welfare Department.
They shared their experiences and expertise on various aspects of substance abuse, including its legal consequences and its effects on individuals, families, and society. The purpose of the event was to promote awareness and encourage the community, particularly youth, to work together to address this issue and promote the well-being and unity of society.
