Stage set for counting of votes in 14 LS seats in Assam tomorrow, 5823 officials engaged in 52 centres
Along with the rest of the country, Assam will count votes for 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in 52 centres spread across 50 state election districts on Tuesday.
In a post on X, Assam chief electoral officer (CEO) Anurag Goel said: “Tomorrow at 8 am, the pulse of democracy begins with the counting of votes.”
A senior official of the CEO office said a total of 152 counting rooms will be operational, equipped with 1,941 counting tables for both postal ballots and EVMs. The counting process is expected to be completed in 10 to 28 rounds. But the constituencies like Jaleshwar and East Goalpara require a maximum of 28 rounds.
A total of 5,823 vote-counting officers have been appointed, supported by 64 general observers.
The final results will be declared from multiple locations, including Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Guwahati, Udalguri, Nagaon, Diphu, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Karimganj, and Golaghat between 4 and 4:30 pm.
For Kamrup Metro Election District, the counting will be conducted at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre at Sarusajai here.
There are 1,026 EVMs across five assembly segments in Kamrup Metro district under Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency- Dispur, dimoria, New Guwahati, Guwahati Central and Jalukbari.
There will be a total of 70 counting tables, 14 each for five constituencies.
10 counting tables have been kept for counting postal ballots.
The counting will be conducted in 16 rounds in Dispur LAC, 17 in Dimoria, 14 in New Guwahati, 14 in Guwahati Central and 15 rounds in Jalukbari assembly segment.
The Guwahati city police have enforced several traffic restrictions for smooth counting of votes.
According to the advisory, heavy goods carrying vehicles will be prohibited from plying on NH-27 within Guwahati limits from 4 am on Tuesday until the vote counting process concludes.
Vehicles travelling from Jyotikuchi towards Rajiv Gandhi Road will be diverted to AK Azad Road. Rajiv Gandhi Road will be designated as a no-vehicle and no-parking zone.
Vehicles will be barred from entering the service lane from the IOCL side towards Maniram Dewan Trade Centre.
Vehicles coming from Garchuk towards Maniram Dewan Trade Centre will be redirected to NH-27 via the flyover bridge. Entry to the service lane towards Maniram Dewan Trade Centre will be restricted, with exemptions for election duty personnel, poll-related materials, and emergency service vehicles.
However, the restrictions will not affect the movement of emergency vehicles, including fire tenders, ambulances, life-saving drugs, and vehicles carrying oxygen cylinders.
