Star Cement mines celebrate MEMC Week 2023-24
The 13th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation (MEMC) Week for 2023-24 was celebrated at three mines of Star Cement Limited under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Guwahati Region. The MEMC week inspection took place at Lumshnong Limestone Mine, Wah-Pynkon Limestone Mine and Brishyrnot Limestone Mine on January 30.
D Bansal, the Management Representative, graced the event. The inspection team, led by Shishupal Singh, Convenor of the team, and team members SS Behra, Ranuj Kr. Das, Veera Babu, assessed all three mines.
The team assessed the mines based on their performance in afforestation, waste dump management, topsoil management, reclamation and rehabilitation, management of sub-grade minerals, and installation and use of dust suppression systems, as well as monitoring and sustainability.
To promote awareness about mine environments and mineral conservation, various activities, including observance, mine inspections, and competitions, were organized for employees and stakeholders. These activities featured environment awareness programs such as slogan and poster competitions, aiming to create awareness and emphasize the importance of mine environment and mineral conservation.
In the presence of an enthusiastic gathering, Shishupal Singh and Dinesh Chandra Sinha, DGM (Mines) at Star Cement Limited, hoisted the flag and took the oath to protect nature and conserve minerals. Star Cement senior officials felicitated the inspection team members during the observation.

D Bansal delivered a speech, raising awareness among all employees and expressing gratitude to IBM for their support and continuous guidance to the mining fraternity. Continuing his speech, he congratulated the mine management for their endless efforts in conducting mining activities in an eco-friendly manner, including installing water sprinkling systems along haul roads, bio-toilets, solar lighting systems, and rainwater harvesting systems.
A spectacular cultural program was hosted at the end of the observation by the school children of Star Public School and mine employees. Concluding the program, DC Sinha congratulated all Mine Managers and thanked IBM, Guwahati Region, for facilitating the MEMC week celebrations, providing an opportunity for mining companies to share their best practices.
