State registers 55 percent voter turnout till 3 pm

SHILLONG: Voting for the Lok Sabha elections to the Shillong and Tura parliamentary seats was recorded at 55 percent till 3pm on Thursday, state’s chief electoral officer Fredrick Roy Kharkongor said.

Meghalaya is having a total 19,14,795 electorate which include 11,95,662 voters in Shillong parliamentary constituency and 7,15,707 voters in Tura parliamentary constituency. There are 9,65,174 are female voters and 9,49,621 are male voters.
Among these, over 80,000 are first time voters. Over 800 of 4686 persons with disabilities are also casting their vote for the first time using special-enabled Braille ballot papers.

Adequate security arrangements have been made in all the 3167 polling stations spread across the eleven districts under the two parliamentary constituencies.
