Stop construction of Assam Police Outpost in Saitsama area: JSM
JOWAI: Enraged with the intrusion by the Assam Government in the border areas of West Jaintia Hills District, the Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) Central Body today demanded the stopping of the construction of the Battalion Outpost of the Assam Police in Pom Dkhar located in Rtiang Sanphaw Village bordering Saitsama village of West Jaintia Hills District.
The student body under the leadership of its President Leningstar Rymbai went to meet Deputy Commissioner West Jaintia Hills District LSN Dykes Garod at his office chamber this afternoon and submitted a petition to him.
According to the petition, the JSM observed that the Assam Government always intrudes into the territory of Meghalaya during the time when the Government machineries in Meghalaya are preoccupied with the conduct of elections.
Rymbai said that the Assam Government is constructing the building of Battalion Outpost of Assam Police in Pom Dkhar, Rtiang Sanphaw near Saitsama under the jurisdiction of West Jaintia Hills District and it is highly unwelcomed and disturbing for us and the people of the said villages and adjacent areas
“The setting up of the Battalion Outpost in our lands is the marking of territory by the Government of Assam to fortify their claims in their attempt to intrude to our lands,” he said.
The petition read that by setting up of Battalion Outpost in the border areas, the Assam Government will facilitate their nefarious intention of carrying out further intrusions and to stop any protest from Meghalaya.
Rymbai expressed concern over the fact that the construction of the Battalion Outpost is hardly 20 kilometers away from the Saitsama Outpost, but they are not aware of what is happening in their jurisdiction.
The JSM President feared, “If the Battalion Outpost at Saitsama area is not stopped then we are sure that we will have Langpih like situation in the near future and the Government of Meghalaya will have to take up the responsibility.”
He also informed that the DC shared his concern over the matter and he will be discussing the matter with the SP for chalking further course of actions.
