Strays find haven in Barato village’s vacant government building
In an unexpected turn of events, the government office building in Barato village, West Jaintia Hills, equipped and ready for operation, now stands abandoned.
Ehbok Sten, president Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Barato Unit, said that they have received multiple complaints from villagers. These grievances shed light on the non-operational state of the animal husbandry and veterinary dispensary and the consistent absence of dispensary employees.
The office itself remains locked most of the time, causing considerable frustration for local farmers in the area.
Interestingly, the staff quarters that were once meant to accommodate government employees have undergone a transformation, now serving as a makeshift sanctuary for animals. The building’s windows and doors have been ravaged, evidencing the shift from its initial purpose.
The government office was established with the aim of providing livestock treatment and vaccinations, but this objective has sadly not been realized. As a result, the farmers in the vicinity have been left without the services that were intended to support their agricultural activities.
