Student among two held for drug trafficking in Shillong
SHILLONG: Two persons including a university student were arrested along with heroin from the city.
Acting on tip off, anti-narcotic task force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills superintendent of police and special party of Sadar police station arrested one Lobkush Bohara, a student at the ICFAI University, Shillong from Khyndailad area and seized 5.93 gms of heroin from his possession on November 7.
A vehile was also seized by the team. According to SP (City) SA Rynjah, the accused is a close associate of another drug dealer Haleem Miah who was caught recently in Nongthymmai area.
A case has been registered at Sadar police station under section 21(b) of NDPS Act, 1985.
In another incident, based on intelligence of Assam Rifles, the ANTF team also caught one Rahul Das with 119.48 grams of heroin while another accused identified as Imran Mynthlu managed to give a slip to the police.
Police is on the look out for him and solicits information from public regarding his whereabouts, Rynjah said.
He informed that case has been registered against both the accused at Lumdengjri police station under section 21(b) of NDPS Act, 1985.
Meanwhile, the SP said that due to large recoveries of drugs in recent past the dealers are also changing their strategy by bringing in not so big consignments. Moreover, in both the cases, the drugs were brought from Guwahati by the accused, he added.
