Students Body demands CSI unit in all district police hdqrs in Meghalaya
Emphasizing on the need of proper and scientific investigation of crimes in the State of Meghalaya, the Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) Central Body demanded the setting up of a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Unit in all District Police Headquarters of Meghalaya immediately and issue a deadline till April 30th, next to Meghalaya Government for fulfilling their demands.
In a memorandum submitted to Meghalaya Home Minister Lakmen Rymbui on Thursday, JSM president Leningstar Rymbai expressed grave concern over the recent brutal and barbaric murder of two young girls in East Jaintia Hills District within a period of 90 days but till day the Meghalaya Police is yet to make any breakthrough in both the cases.
He further informed that on December 16th/17th, 2020, one 18 years old who was a Class IX Student was brutally raped and murdered by unidentified miscreants. He also said that she was found death in a pool of bloods at a deserted location of a village under Lad Rymbai Outpost, East Jaintia Hills District after a massive manhunt as she did not returned home after her school hours. In this connection, Khliehriat PS Case No. 47 (12) 2020 U/s 376/302 IPC was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the Uncle of the deceased, he added.
Rymbai informed on March 12/13th, 2021, a 17 years old girl who was Class X Student was inhumanely murdered by unidentified miscreants. She was also found death in a pool of bloods after she went missing for a day at a forest area in Ar Kilo under Khliehriat Police Station, East Jaintia Hills District, he also said. In this connection, Khliehriat PS Case No. 9 (3) 2020 U/s 363/364/302 IPC was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the Uncle of the deceased, he added.
The JSM President said that the two incidents created a sense of fears and insecurity amongst the people of East Jaintia Hills District especially the young girls and women as the Meghalaya Police has not been able to nail down the culprit(s) of the first case and the second case happened within a period of ninety days raised doubts on their ability and sincerity.
Rymbai called upon the Meghalaya Government to hand over the investigation of the above two cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation. He also demanded the posting of a woman officer in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police in East Jaintia Hills District who should be specifically tasks to attend to crime against women/young girls.
The JSM President demanded the setting up of Crime Scene Investigation Unit in all District Police Headquarters of Meghalaya besides posting of a woman police officer in the rank of Sub Inspector with a separate room and entrance in all Police Outposts/Police Stations in Meghalaya.
The JSM issued deadline till April 30th, 2021 to the Meghalaya Government for the fulfillment of the above demands failing which we will be compel to resort to paths of agitations.
