Sub-committee to submit its report before HLC over Sweeper’s Colony issue: Dohling
A sub-committee headed by urban affairs minister Hamletson Dohling will soon submit its report to the High Level Committee constituted by the state government to find a feasible solution for relocation of the Sweeper’s Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
Dohling told reporters on Tuesday that the sub-committee was set up by the HLC to resolve certain important issues related with the Hima Mylliem.
He said that the sub-committee after two sittings has decided to submit its report to the HLC headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong but this got delayed due to the national lockdown to combat against COVID-19 pandemic.
“Therefore, a meeting of the sub-committee will be convened next week, to finalize the report and accordingly hand it over to the chairman of the HLC,” Dohling said.
Asked, the minister said that HLC will examine the recommendations of the sub-committee before it finally submitting its report to the state government.
“We hope that the HLC will incorporate the recommendations in its report to be submitted to the government for taking necessary action on the long pending issue,” he added.
It may be mentioned here that the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) has been opposing the move of the state government to relocate the residents of the Sweeper’s Colony from the Them Iew Mawlong.
The residents have also refused to pay heed to the notices served by the Shillong Municipal Board, which directed them to submit their documents.
As per the inventory report submitted by the board to the HLC, a total of 184 employees and their families have been identified as legal settlers. These include families of 128 employees of the SMB and 56 others who are working in the different government departments.
It may also be noted that the high level committee was constituted following the violent protest at Motphran in 2018.
