SUPH demands institutional quarantine for returnees
Ka Sur U Paidbah Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SUPH) or the Voice of U Hynniewtrep has demanded the state government to use community or government quarantine centres for isolation of returnees.
“We…urged upon you to ensure that community or government quarantine centres are used for isolation of individuals returning to the state,” SUPH chairman and former minister HS Shylla said in a letter submitted to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma here on Friday.
Shylla said two of the ten students who have arrived from West Bengal on Wednesday have requested for government quarantine centres since their homes are very small and self-isolation or home quarantine would be impossible.
He further alleged astonishingly, the district administration of Jaintia Hills have overlooked their request and carelessly directed the students to go home.
Demanding that the incident should be investigated, the former minister said, “If this is true, we strongly condemn such unacceptable response of the district administration, who chose to put the lives of the citizen of the state at stake. We are very sad to say that if this is true and if this is the way the government is handling Covid-19, then lives of the people of the state is at high risk for which the Government will be held accountable.”
Meanwhile, the SUPH urged the state government that if necessary more community quarantine centres need to be created at the village level.
