Suspected IED blast rocks Shillong, 1 injured

A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) bomb exploded in Shillong city on Saturday night.

The incident took place at around 10.30 pm near a syndicate bus stand near Them Iew Mawlong (Punjabi lane), East Khasi Hills SP Rituraj Ravi said.

He said that the blast was inside a small abandoned tin structure adding that no casualty reported till now.

“Damage confined only to the tin structure and a few window panes nearby. Further report on the damages awaited,” Ravi said.

“Preliminary investigation suggests the blast to be caused by IED. Further enquiry and investigation under progress,” he added.

Sources however informed that one person was injured during the incident.

The explosion was so powerful that it was also heard by residents, who are residing far away from the place of occurrence.

A shop was also totally damaged in the incident.
