Sutnga-Saipung MLA urges Govt to expediting process of four laning of NH-6
NPP legislator from Sutnga-Saipung Santa Mary Shylla on Monday sought the state government’s intervention for expediting the four laning of the NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills district..
Taking part in the debate on the Governor’s Address in the Assembly, Shylla expressed concern over the deteriorating and deplorable condition of NH-6 in East Jaintia Hills District from Lumshnong to Malidor particularly around Sonapur tunnel upto Pyrtakuna village.
She said that the stretch from Sonapur village till Pyrtakuna village is in the worst possible state and it is matter of shame for our state that a national highway is in such a state.
She also added that thousands of vehicles pass through this road on a daily basis and is the backbone of many North East states yet the national highway authority of India (NHAI) has been negligent in maintaining this crucial highway. Even the High Court of Meghalaya has expressed serious concern about the condition of the NH-6 and inspite of many undertakings by the NHAI, the state of the road is a matter of great concern.

“The state should take serious note of this and it is also my earnest request that the process of four laning of NH-6 should be expedited as the present road cannot meet the traffic requirement,” she said.
Further, Shylla also said that the bad condition of the village roads also affects the productivity and affects the economic welfare of the people especially given the fact that the villages in her constituency are scattered in far flung locations.
“I therefore seek government attention to this road namely Saipung-Pala-Samasi road, DSSMH road and Jalyiah to Narwan road,” she said.
