Swiggy employees demand KHADC to reconsider its decision
SHILLONG: Employees of the Bangalore-based home delivery company – Swiggy has demanded the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to reconsider its decision to close down the company.
A delegation of the Swiggy employees on Tuesday also submitted a letter to the Council’s executive member in-charge Trade Paul Lyngdoh requesting for his intervention into the matter.
This came a day after the enforcement wing of the KHADC has closed down the office of the Swiggy company at Dhankheti for operating without obtaining any trade license from the Council.
“We request the authority concerned to reconsider its decision and allow the company to comply with the order without shutting down its office,” one of the employees Hubert Gatphoh told reporters after submitting the letter.
He said the action taken by the Council has affected more than 300 employees, which most of them are local youths.
Another employee, O Laloo said that many local youths especially those who are having families are depending livelihood by working in the company for the past four months. “We feel that the action taken will only dislocate their livelihood activities,” he said.
According to them, an employee is earning around Rs 5,000 per week through the home delivery service.
Meanwhile, the KHADC has decided to intensify checking against illegal business establishments under its jurisdiction.
