Syngkon of VPP confident to win Shillong parliamentary seat

Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) candidate Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon on Tuesday expressing confidence of winning the elections from Shillong LS seat.

Speaking to reporters, Syngkon said that the party is fully prepared to face the election. He said the party has toured all 36 constituencies in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.

“Myself and the party, we are very confident of winning this election…because wherever we go the support that we get from the people is really tremendous and we have full faith and trust in the people of these 36 constituencies,” he said.

Asked, Syngkon denied that his party is against the Hindi language.

“We have never opposed speaking in Hindi. This allegation is nothing but cheap political mileage by other political parties and we condemn such kind of statement.”

Stating that the VPP also stands for the genuine non-tribal residents of Meghalaya, the VPP general secretary said that he is confident that such citizens of the state will also support the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“We acknowledge the contributions made by the non-Khasi people who contributed tremendously to the state and they also need to be protected and the party will also ensure that their interest is well protected but at the same time also we have to also protect the state from those who are illegal, people who come here illegally that is what I think together with those people from the state other than the local I think. As a party we are concerned about the constitutional right even of other people from the non Khasi,” he said.

Syngkon said that the BJP’s decision to support the NPP only shows the true colours of both the parties but they would like to leave it to the wisdom of the people to take a decision on the matter.
