Synjuk Waheh Chnong EJH urges MePDCL to address electricity bill crisis
Synjuk Waheh Chnong East Jaintia Hills District (EJH) on Tuesday asked the Executive Engineer, Meghalaya Energy Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat to address the significant increase in electricity bills in the district.
In a letter to the Executive Engineer at MEPDCL, Khliehriat, Synjuk Waheh Shnong president Hambertus Nongtdu and general secretary Jesper Bareh stated that they had received numerous complaints about the noticeable surge in monthly electricity bills faced by residents of East Jaintia Hills. This situation has caused significant concerns within the society as a majority of the district’s population lives below the poverty line. The increased bills are putting financial pressure on a large part of the community, leading to constraints and even financial crises. Notably, there are disruptions to the regular electricity during the rainy season.
The Synjuk highlighted that a substantial number of electricity poles in and around the district are in urgent need of replacement and repair. The deteriorating condition of these poles poses substantial risks to both public safety and property.
In light of these pressing issues, president Hambertus Nongtdu and general secretary Jesper Bareh urged the Executive Engineer to take prompt action and implement necessary measures to address these issues in the interest of the public at large.
