TCSU stages hunger strike protest against delay in job recruitment process
The Trinamool Congress Students Union (TCSU) on Thursday staged a hunger strike protest against the total lack of transparency in the job recruitment process in the state.
Members of the Union also displayed placards which read, “we demand from the government to speed up the recruitment process in every department”, “You said education is the key yet all doors are locked”, “educated and unemployed”, “depression is caused by unemployment”, “we oppose hypocrisy in appointment” among others.
TCSU president Bansharailang Pyngrope told reporters that the union has decided to demand the present government and also the future governments of the state to ensure transparency in the job recruitment process in the state.
He alleged that there has been undue delay in declaring the examination dates for job recruitment in the different departments of the state.
“For a very long time since 2018, we have all applied for a number of jobs. Around 20-30 jobs we have applied, we have paid exam fees but till date there’s not been any notification from the government’s side which has set the examination dates nothing as such means the government is not following the rules already set by the central agencies,” Pyngrope said adding “They said due to Covid-19 they had to stop the recruitment process but we can see the SSC, State Bank of India they have started again with the recruitment process but our state still lacks behind.”
Stating that there are numbers of jobs which are lying vacant in the state as per the various RTI findings, the TCSU leader said, “Chief Minister had declared in the Assembly that there are 2,000 jobs in the police department. Recently another group of concerned students who held protest near the Kiang Nangbah statue following which they were invited by the minister, who informed that there are 800 jobs. So the 2,000 jobs declared by CM in the Assembly has gone down to 800. How is that possible?”
Asserting that it is time to fight for the rights of unemployed youths, Pyngrope said, “Enough of sitting at home and say that this is injustice here and injustice there, backdoor entry here and backdoor entry there, it is time to fight for our own rights.”
Further alleging that mismanagement by the current government is at its highest, the TCSU president said, “The rules are not followed by the government whereas in other states these are being implemented and dates of the exams are set but here the dates of the exams are not set and the marks of the students are also not shown.”
He said that the government can no longer fool the youth.
“The Deputy CM said we will just lie to people every five years and still they believe us but so sorry Deputy CM Sir but now the youths are educated all thanks to our parents and we will no longer be fooled we will stand up for our rights and we will fight for justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pyngrope demanded the government to reimburse all the travelling fare of the students who had to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) examination in other states.
“The CM declared that there will be no CUET in Meghalaya but now so many students are crying, toppers from different departments are now unable to properly attempt their exams. They were saying out of 100 questions, just four they are sure of. Is this the kind of future they are paving for us? So many students…ended up (appearing for CUET) in Guwahati, Dimapur and Aizawl. We demand the government to reimburse all the travelling fare of the CUET affected students,” he said.
