Teaching is no longer a routine job: Lahkmen Rymbui on Teachers’ Day
The office of the District School Education Officer, West Jaintia Hills celebrated the 63rd teachers’ day with a grand event at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai.
The event was graced by Lahkmen Rymbui, MLA 7 – Amlarem and Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya as the chief guest and Additional Deputy Commissioner Baianti Blah as the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Lahkmen Rymbui praised the teachers for their selfless contribution to molding and shaping the lives of students. He emphasised that teaching is no longer a simple routing job but a demanding profession that requires teachers to not only impart knowledge but also empower students and guide them to become responsible citizens capable of navigating the complexity of the modern world.
He commended the teachers for their dedication and perseverance, recognising their efforts to continuously adapt despite rapid challenges in the society. “The role of teachers goes beyond educating young minds, it involves giving students the freedom to think, instil hope and most importantly nurturing them to become good human being” Shri. Lahkmen remarked.
He expresses his satisfaction with the progress teachers have made in improving their skills through various training, including online platforms like NISHTHA. He highlighted the importance of continuous professional development and adaptation to the changing aims and aspirations of students, who now have a wider array of opportunities than ever before. “Gone are the days when students had limited goals. Today’s youth have diverse ambitions and it is not easy for teachers to guide them towards their chosen paths”, he remarked.
He urged the teachers to continuously update themselves, stressing that the responsibilities of teaching now involve not only academic instruction but also preparing students to face an ever-evolving world with resilience and confidence
He called for collective responsibility, involving not just teachers but also parents, society and government bodies to support and uplift the education system. He also urged the students to work hard and embrace continuous learning, emphasising that there are no shortcuts to success.
During the celebration, distinguished teachers were honoured with district awards for their outstanding contributions. Mementos and certificates were presented to Diamond Paswet, Assistant Lecturer at Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School (Hr. Sec & Sec Level); Emperor Gassah, Head Master at Trangblang Govt U.P School, Trangblang (U.P Level); Pratap Singh Khonglah, Head Teacher at SR Manner Memo. Government Lower Primary School, Sohkha (L.P Level); Carefully Gassah, Scout Master and Assistant Scoutmaster at Jowai Open Scout Troop; and Grecorisa Sana, Guide Captain at Lissi Pearl Guide Company.
The event concluded with students expressing their gratitude through various performances, showcasing their appreciation for their teachers.
