Tetso Mountaineering Club conquers Mt Japfu in ‘Operation Tiranga: Hum Saath-Saath Hain’
In a remarkable display of courage and patriotism, the Tetso Mountaineering Club (TMC), Nagaland has completed an expedition to Mt Japfu, scaling the formidable peak to celebrate India’s Independence Day.
The expedition, named “Operation Tiranga: Hum Saath-Saath Hain,” took place on August 15, with support from the 13 Assam Rifles, Kohima, which provided essential supplies, including rations, ropes, and other critical equipment.
The climbing team, led by Longtsubemo Yanthan, President of the Tetso Mountaineering Club, included seasoned mountaineers John Mech, Vitoka P Awomi, Kulungshi Newmai, Moko Chollen and Kikru Victor.
Together, they braved treacherous weather conditions to hoist the national flag atop Mt. Japfu, symbolizing the resilience and determination of the younger generation in Nagaland.
Dr Aniruddha Babar, founder and director general of Tetso Mountaineering Club, expressed immense pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “The Mt Japfu- “Operation Tiranga” expedition, undertaken in such difficult conditions, symbolizes the steadfast commitment of Nagaland’s youth to our nation. I am incredibly proud of these young men. They have accomplished something remarkable, and the entire nation shares in this pride.”
Expedition leader Longtsubemo Yanthan dedicated the team’s success to the nation, saying, “We dedicate this victory to Mother India and to all the people of our great nation. We wish all a Happy Independence Day”
Team member Kulungshi Newmai reflected on the challenges they faced, remarking, “Climbing Mt Japfu in such dangerous weather was certainly a daunting idea, but that’s the essence of TMC. Our founder and leader Dr Aniruddha Babar has taught us to risk everything for the greater good of the nation.”
John Mech, another key member of the team, added, “Every member was driven by a shared sense of purpose. There was never any question of turning back. We were determined to do whatever it takes for our nation.”
This successful expedition marks another significant milestone for the Tetso Mountaineering Club of Tetso College, reinforcing their dedication not only to the sport of mountaineering but also to the spirit of national pride.
