TGAM formed Sohra unit to elevate tourist guide services
In an effort to provide systematic and professional tour guide services to tourists visiting Sohra which is regarded as one of the most sought after tourists destinations, the Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya (TGAM), central body formed the TGAM- Sohra unit.
In a statement issued here, the TGAM on September 16, in the presence of the TGAM central body president Ialamphang Lyngdoh, general secretary TGAM Gerald Samuel Duia and executive members of the TGAM central body have inducted new members and have formed the Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya – Sohra Unit under the leadership of Gilbert Khongsit as the TGAM president Sohra Unit, general secretary TGAM Sohra unit Banehskhem Diengdoh, treasurer TGAM Sohra unit Dappura Chyne.
The TGAM central body stated, “Looking at the rise in the tourism sector in the state especially in Sohra region, the TGAM central body has taken a new step in ensuring that all tourism activities should be mechanised in a systematic manner where it will ease the visitors of the state in availing professional tour guide services at the same time safeguarding the interests and livelihood that the guides will earn through these services.”
The association will be forming new units at various locations where tourism has picked up.
The association also welcomes application for membership of any individual involving in Tour Guiding activities or similar which will bring all the tour guides under one umbrella to share a profound and united manner of uplifting and working with each other in the tourism industry of the state.
The association stated, “This will enhance and give a meaningful experience to the visitors of the state in various ways than just mere sightseeing if local guides are present. The central body wishes the newly formed Sohra Unit the very best in this new chapter and will work together in various aspects.”
