Third Front: AJP, Jatiya Dal and APHLC to work in unison with Raijor Dal to strengthen regional politics in Assam
Former AASU leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi led Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP). Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar BHuyan-led Jatiya Das, Assam, Jones Ingty Kathar-led All Peoples Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC) and Akhil Gogoi-led Raijor Dal will work in unison to strengthen the regional politics in the state.
It was resolved in a central executive committee meeting of AJP held in Dibrugarh on Thursday.
“However, the AJP is yet to give a final shape on the proposal for merger of the party with Raijor Dal, even as the issue was discussed in the meeting,” a senior leader of the party said.
“We are yet to finalise whether we will come into one platform or merge with Raijor Dal. It will be decided in the future course of action,” he said.
“To strengthen the regional political movement of Assam, AJP, Raijor Dal, Jatiya Dal – Assam and APHLC will work in unison,” the party resolution stated.
Notably, in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the AJP has decided to merge with Raijor Dal as the party is yet to get recognition as a political party from the Election Commission of India (ECI)
The meeting expressed its gratitude to the people who had extended their help and support to the party during the recently concluded Lok Sabha election in Dibrugarh constituency in which AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi contested as consensus candidate of United Opposition Forum.
The meeting also decided to put its consistent efforts into solving the national issues of Assam and Assamese people and to promote the national affairs of the state more strongly. At the same time, the meeting decided to take forward the political efforts to make the nation strong and prosperous by strengthening the unity and harmony between all ethnic groups of Assam.
The meeting also entrusted the Political Affairs committee of the party to decide the strategy of the party for the upcoming panchayat election and the 2026 assembly elections in the state.
The meeting expressed concern that the activities of the Election Commission of India (ECI) which is being influenced by the ruling BJP. The meeting resolved to monitor the situation arising out of the increase in voter turnout overnight and the delay in the announcement of voter turnout in the election process.
The meeting further expressed its concern over the hike in prices of all essential commodities and medicines which make the life of common people miserable. The regional party will also take out a protest rally in Guwahati in this regard.
