Thousands take part in the annual Eucharistic Procession held in Shillong
The annual Eucharistic Procession in the Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong was held on Sunday in the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.
The Eucharistic Procession is the manifestation of faith in the presence of Jesus in Holy Eucharist. There is no other worship in the Catholic Church greater than the Eucharist.
His Grace, Most Rev Vector Lyngdoh, the Archbishop of Shillong was the chief celebrant of the Holy Mass. Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh celebrated the Holy Mass and took the Blessed Sacrament for the Procession.
Along with Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh, there were council members of the Archdiocese. The Parish Priests, Rectors, Major Superiors, Provincials, MLAs, MDCs, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, officers of the government of Meghalaya, delegates from many Dioceses of the North East and from other parts of India.
In the Holy Mass in the morning, His Grace in his homily appreciated generosity of the faithful towards the need of the Church. To see God in the journey of faith is an important part in the life of Christians.
It was in the homily that he reminded that 90 years ago, on this day, the November 10, 1934, Bishop Stephen Ferrando and Bishop Louis Mathias was ordained Bishops by Archbishop Ferdinand Perier in the same venue, the Calvary of the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah.
He reminded the Centenary arrival of the great missionary, Fr Constantine Vendrame in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
There were thousands of faithful who walked in the procession and those who prayed from different locations of the vicinity of the Cathedral Parish.
In the afternoon, the Archbishop announced the Jubilee Year 2025 of the Universal Church with the theme – “Pilgrims of Hope”. And also declared “The Year of the Sacrament of Reconciliation”. The Diamond Jubilee will be in the year 2029, and the Centenary year of the Archdiocese in 2034.
The day was concluded with the solemn blessings from His Grace, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh.
