Three days long “Roots of Identity” in honor of Meghalaya Unsung heroes underway
Celebrating the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture, a three day long programme entitled ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’ or the ‘Roots of Identity’ (In Memory of The Unsung Heroes of Meghalaya) got underway in Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong on Thursday.
The programme is jointly organized by the Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation under the chairmanship of Dr Prakash Kishore
Inaugurating the programme, Commissioner and Secretary, Arts and Culture Frederick Roy Kharkongor, IAS said “The very theme, ‘Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng’ which talks about the roots of identity, I think, is something which is very relevant not only for 75 years but for all time to come because we need to remember how this freedom was brought about.”
He appreciated the Union Ministry of Culture for putting a spotlight on the unsung heroes, on the leaders such as Tirot Sing, Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma who, in a sense, are precursors to the Indian National Movement.”
After the official function, a National Seminar on ‘Indian Independence Movement – A Milestone In Meghalaya’ chaired by Dr J J Mozika, was held in the First Session where Dr Jaiprakash Gupta was the keynote speaker while other speakers included Bindo M Lanong, Dr P M Passah and Raphael Warjri.
Speakers during the Second Session included chairman, Dr Ab K Singh, Dr Desmond L Mawphlang, Dr L S Gassah and Kerpa M Lyngdoh.
The National Art workshop that was also conducted during the day witnessed enthusiastic and keen participation of artists from across the country.
