Three MeCEL employees amongst 11 persons arrested in East Jaintia Hills for arson

In well planned criminal consiparcy, three MeCEL employees and eight persons were arrested for commission of arson at the residence of a prominent person in Rymbai Iawpynsin Village, East Jaintia Hills District.

Police said on Wednesday night at around 10:45 pm, miscreants set the house of Ex Headman of Rymbai village in Rymbai lawpynsin village, East Jaintia Hills District on fire.

Police said Deishim O. Lamurong of Rymbai Shynrang Sakhain village was caught red handed by the public at the time when he was committing the offence of arson, while his associates ran away taking advantage of darkness.

Further, Heisalon Dkhar working at MeECL Control Room was suspected to be involved in the incident as he tripped the electricity line before the house was set on fire.

Police said a case vide Khliehriat PS Case No. 18(3)2023 u/s 120B/307/427 /436/506/34 IPC has been registered.

Investigation is on to reveal the other co-accused and the larger conspiracy involved.

The arrested persons so far are Deishim O. Lamurong (26 yrs) R/o Rymbai Shynrang Sakhain, Bakstar Dkhar (32 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Cherishme Dkhar (23 yrs) r/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Eborlang Nongtdu (35 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Emerson Dkhar (25 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Roilang Dkhar (36 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Henry Shangpung (32 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain and Thynda Lyngdoh (36 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain.

Further, three employees of MeECL who assisted the miscreants by intentionally cutting off power supply to Rymbai village were also arrested. They are Heisalon Dkhar (33 yrs) R/o Rymbai Synrang Sakhain, Elius Wanniang (40 yrs) R/o Mawkyrwat village and Rishotlang Bareh (31 yrs) R/oKhimmusniang locality, Jowai.
