Thrilling conclusion to West Jaintia’s Inter School Badminton event

The 17th Inter School Badminton Tournament 2024, organized by the West Jaintia District Badminton Association (WJDBA), reached an exhilarating conclusion at the Chutwakhu Indoor Sports Hall in Jowai after four action-packed days from May 7-10.

Throughout the tournament, 162 matches unfolded across the Singles and Doubles categories for Under 13, 15, and 17, showcasing the skills of young talents from 18 schools.

In the Under 13 boys’ singles, Jayden Phyllei of KJP Hr. Sec School emerged victorious, with Tule-i-tre Kyndiah of North Liberty Hr. Sec. School as the runner-up in a tightly contested final over three sets 20-22, 21-16, 22-20.

Nihaka Lamare secured the title in the Under 13 girls’ singles by defeating Wanduka Mary Passah, both from St. Mary Mazzarello, with a commanding score of 4-21, 6-21.

In the Under 13 boys’ doubles, Emmanuel Bando and Rikerlang Lamare of Adventist Hr. Sec. School emerged victorious, while Ruddyson Sutnga and Kordorlang Bareh from KJP Hr. Sec. School finished as runners-up, with a score of 20-11, 20-7.

Teidame Sungoh claimed victory in the Under 15 boys’ singles by defeating Ryumdiam Kyndiah, both from Jowai Public School, in two sets 21-12, 21-16. Meanwhile, Stephen Wakambam Darnai and Thangpei Zimik of Adventist Hr. Sec School clinched the Under 15 boys’ doubles title by defeating Riang Fermitre Bareh and Nida O Laloo (Jowai Public School) in 16-21,19-21.

Nihaka Lamare continued her winning streak in the Under 15 girls’ singles, defeating Daphika Ryngkhlem of Jowai Public School in 21-13, 21-11. Catherine Wakambam Daimari and Rosangzuai Kawlni of Adventist Higher Secondary School emerged victorious in the Under 15 girls’ doubles category defeating Daphika Ryngkhlem and Shida Phawa (Jowai Public School) in 13-21,18-21.

In the under 17 boys’ singles, Hunbait S Mannar secured victory against Lechan Suchiang, both representing Lummoroo Hr. Sec School, Shangpung in 17-21, 15-21.

Dabiang Sakani Langdoh claimed the title in the under 17 girls’ singles category by defeating Dana Angelika Phyllei (KJP Hr. Sec School). Langdoh secured victory in two sets 19-21, 13-21.

Lechan Suchiang and Salonbhami Suchiang won the under 17 boys’ doubles by defeating Hunbait S Mannar and Dapmon Papang in three sets 22-20, 19-21, 21-14.

While Aureliana E Passah and Dabiang Sakani Langdoh (North Liberty Hr. Sec. School) triumphed in the under 17 girls’ doubles by defeating Jestify Timung and Teishwadaka Tyngkan (Kiang Nangbah Hr. Sec. School) 21-6, 21-9.

The tournament not only showcased sporting excellence but also served as a platform to encourage participation and promote a healthy lifestyle among students. District Mission Coordinator, SSA, West Jaintia Hills District Mumubai Lakiang, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, presenting cash prizes and certificates alongside distinguished members of the WJDBA and WJDSA.
