Tiger organs seized in Nagaon; Three arrested in joint operation
In a significant wildlife crime crackdown, a joint operation by the Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Nagaon Territorial Division, and Nagaon Police led to the seizure of tiger claws, tiger canines, tiger bones, and an elephant tusk in the Kathiatoli area of Nagaon district on Wednesday evening.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal wildlife trade. The accused have been identified as Amar Hansey (Karbi Anglong), Mahendra Borgrang (Nagaon) and Probin Sangma (Karbi Anglong).
According to an official from the Forest Department, the arrested individuals were allegedly engaged in transporting animal skeletons, a serious offence under India’s Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Further investigations are underway to identify potential links to larger poaching and smuggling networks.
