Total curfew clamped down in East Jaintia Hills
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District in a press release issued here informs the general public that in view of the prevailing situation concerning COVID-19 in the State, country and globally and to put in place preventive and mitigation measures to identify and take more stringent steps so the pandemic of COVID-19 is contained in East Jaintia Hills District and Meghalaya by way of ensuring observance of strict protocols of the advisories issued by the Government of Meghalaya in the Health and Family Welfare Department.
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District in an order under section 144 Cr.P.C read together with the regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Disease, 2020 has promulgated Total Curfew in the entire of East Jaintia Hills District with effect from 6.00 A.M of the 14th April 2020 upto 6.00 A.M of the 16th of April 2020.
However, this Order will not be applicable to the Security Forces, Medical Teams on duty, Police and Armed Forces Fire and Emergency Service, Government Officials on duty, Officers and staffs of the office of Deputy Commissioner’s and the office of District Public Relations Officer, MeECL and Power Grid, Food and Civil Supply Department, Telecom Communications and IT Services, Print and Electronic Media registered with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Shillong , District Task Force members for compilation and distribution of food to migrant workers.
Also, all movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities along the National Highway, security forces and medical equipment proceeding from Assam towards Meghalaya are also exempted. However, drivers and attendants of the vehicle shall be subject to medical screening compulsory disinfectant and others health advisories as per laid downs protocols.

In addition, the arrangement of Wholesale traders/ retailers shops which are scheduled to be open in East Jaintia Hills District on the 14th of April, 2020 and arrangements of Wine stores and Bonded Warehouses scheduled to be open in East Jaintia Hills District from the 13th to 17 of April, 2020 has now been cancelled. All Curfew passes barring essential services and medical emergencies as mentioned above are suspended for the curfew period of 48 hours.
In view of the urgency of the matter, this order shall come in to force with immediate effect and until further orders. DPRO
