Training programme for post earthquake management in Meghalaya underway
A five day long training programme on “Long Term Recovery and Reconstruction Strategies” got underway on Monday at MATI Building, Mawdiangdiang, East Khasi Hills.
Organised by National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi in collaboration with Meghalaya Disaster Management Authority, Shillong, the Training Programme is participated by sixty participants.
Inaugurating the programme E. Kharmalki, IAS, Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management hoped that the training programme will help them put their minds together to come up with a very good preparatory plan on how to recover and reconstruct in times of Disaster.
Dr. Amir Ali Khan Associate Professor, National Institute of Disaster Management,
New Delhi reminded the participants that they are here to discuss about the issues on Earthquake in the region and the long term strategies for recovery and reconstruction.
He also discuss on how to on what type of planning is required if an Earthquake occurs in the region of Meghalaya.
On a positive note, he challenged the participants to convert this training programme into an opportunity so that the system progresses in the right direction.
Prof. Devesh Walia, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies and Geology, NEHU stressed upon the need to make the environment safe against earthquakes and the need for training of the stakeholders and implementation of long term recovery strategies.
J. P. Lakiang, MCS Executive Director Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority welcomed the gathering while S. Bordoloi, Senior Consultant, MSDMA gave a vote of thanks.
