TUR demands CBI inquiry into road accident involving police escort vehicle
The Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) on Monday demanded a CBI inquiry into a recent accident involving a police escort vehicle leading to the death of (L) Huddersfield Rymbui in Ri Bhoi District.
In a statement, TUR leader Angela Rangad said, “TUR demands that there should be a independent and time-bound CBI inquiry into the murder of Huddersfield Rymbui by a speeding police escort vehicle of cabinet minister of tourism rushing to attend Cherry Blossom Festival, as it has been reported in the media.”
“This inquiry cannot be conducted by Meghalaya police because the murder accused belongs to Meghalaya police itself. This murder is an outcome of VIP and high level culture of impunity that allows the political and bureaucratic class of Meghalaya to ride roughshod over all democratic norms and rule of law,” she stated.
Rangad further added that it needs no reminding that Supreme Court directives on Red Beacon and police escort is violated with impunity in Meghalaya, where politicians and their retinue and family, to bureaucrats, all travel around in vehicles with tinted glasses, many with red beacon and sirens and police escorts.
