TUR terms govt notification ‘anti-people’
The Thma U Rangli Juki (TUR) has termed a notification issued by the state government for the implementation of the Meghalaya Public Services Delivery Act, 2020 as “anti-people”.
Through the notification issued on January 14, the state government has notified services and the time granted for delivery of such services.
“TUR had made extensive suggestions to strengthen this law and also demanded that there should be consultation with the citizens regarding the law and the rules because the law passed by the government was weak and pro-bureaucracy,” TUR leader Angela Rangad said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Stating that their apprehensions were correct, she said according to this notification, it would take 6 months (180days) to get ration cards. “The same time amount of time would be taken by the department to correct and delete names, get a duplicate ration card, or transfer from one shop to the other.
On the other hand, it would take only 15 days for registration for IMFL products, 7 days for import and export permit for spirit and liquor, 3 days for transit permit for liquor, 7 days for temporary Bar license and 30 days for Bar license.
While it would take 180 days to get permission for movie shooting, mining licenses could be had in thirty days,” she said.
She said but that is not all, Labour Dpeartment has notified time periods (10 days) for registration and licensing of contractors and employers, but it is silent on one of the most important services that the Labour Department provides, namely registration of Trade unions.
She further alleged that the notification is silent about the time period in which students can get scholarships or workers can get their salaries.
“It is clear that this government is a government which only works for employers, miners and contractors and wants to make life difficult for the common citizens,” Rangad said while appealing to the citizens to hold this government accountable and demand that the Meghalaya Public Services Delivery Act 2020 should be amended with proper public consultation.
