Two arrested with 100 kilo of marijuana in Lumshnong

Two persons were arrested along with marijuana weight 100 kilo in their vehicle on Sunday morning in Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills District.

The arrested persons identify as Mithan Debnath (34 yrs) and Mintu Debnath (35 yrs) residents of Tripura.

Police said the duo was travelling from Silchar to Lumshnong in a Hyundai Santro car bearing registration no AS-11-C-5741 and carrying illegal contrabands.

The ANTF team and staff of Lumshnong PS set up a naka in front of Lumshnong PS and at around 12:30 Pm the said vehicle is stopped and detained.

Further search was conducted and the contrabands was recovered which was concealed in different compartments of the said vehicle. A preliminary test was conducted and the test gave positive result for marijuana and the total gross weight was found to be 100 kgs (approx) packed in different sizes in total 55 (fifty five) numbers of packets. All formalities were conducted with strict adherence of NDPS Act and in the presences of independent witnesses.

Police said Lumshnong PS Case No. 34(6)2023 u/s 20(b)(ii)(C)/29 NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is on to trace the backward and forward linkages.
