Two more die of COVID-19 in Meghalaya, toll at 167
Two more persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 167 on Thursday.
A total of 187 people tested positive during the day, taking the total number of cases to 1,531, while 129 have recovered from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries to 14,917, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
Dr War said the new cases include 141 in East Khasi Hills district, 18 Ri Bhoi district, 10 West Garo Hills district, 6 East Jaintia Hills district, 4 West Jaintia Hills district, 4 West Khasi Hills district, 2 South Garo Hills district, 1 South West Khasi Hills district and 1 East Garo Hills district.
He informed that of 129 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 106 are from East Khasi Hills, 10 Ri Bhoi, 6 West Jaintia Hills, 3 West Garo Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills and 1 East Jaintia Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 16,617 COVID-19 cases out of which 1,531 are active cases, 14,917 recovered and 169 deaths.
With 1,094 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 155 cases, 81 in West Jaintia Hills, 68 East Jaintia Hills, 67 West Garo Hills, 32 West Khasi Hills, 12 South West Khasi Hills, 6 East Garo Hills, 9 South Garo Hills, 4 South West Garo Hills and 2 in North Garo Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,59,023 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,42,406 were tested negative for the virus even as 348 persons are in institutional quarantine and 1,183 under home quarantine.
There are 1,13,185 entrants from outside the state.
24,645 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 18,218 had received the second dose, while 41,730 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,764 got the second dose as on Thursday.
Moreover, 1,44,948 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 16,249 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the State.
