Two persons booked under Wildlife Protection Act
JOWAI: Two persons have been caught by the Jaintia Wildlife Division of the state forest and environment department from Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary recently for illegally felling of trees and poaching.
According to official, on the 24 April, this year during patrolling duty inside the Sanctuary, wildlife personnel caught Raju Chetri alias to Ngamrothar Pangamte, a resident of Khaddum village for illegally felling trees and converting logs into planks.
The accused was book under section 27,29,30,31,32 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972 for which he liable to be punished under section 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
The accused was later handed over to the District Magistrate of Khliehriat for further investigation.
Meanwhile in November last year, one Paukhosoi Neihsial of Khaddum Village, East Jaiñtia Hills District was caught trespassed inside the Sanctuary with a carcass of a peacock pheasant. The bird falls under schedule I species as per the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. He was book under section 9, 27, 29, 31, 32, 39(3)(a) and 44 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 liable for punishment under 51 a case had been registered with the District Magistrate of East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat .
