Two women arrested with 1.6 crore worth of heroin in East Jaintia Hills
East Jaintia Hills police arrested two women involved in interstate drug trafficking at Nongsning under the Khliehriat Police Station and seized 1.6 crore worth of heroin on Sunday.
The arrested persons identified as Hoihoi Lhanghal (35 years old) and Ling Haokip (40 years old), both from Langol District, Imphal West Manipur.
The police took action based on credible information that two women traveling in a commercial sumo vehicle from Silchar towards Khliehriat were suspected of carrying illegal contraband.
The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) team, along with officers from the Khliehriat Police Station, conducted Naka at Nongsning village and detained a commercial Tata Sumo vehicle with registration number MZ4 A 2996.
Two women were detained, and a search was conducted on their bodies by a female police officer in the presence of an independent witness. Strapped to their bodies were 10 boxes each of suspected heroin, totalling 20 boxes. Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of heroin. Police also confiscated two mobile phones.
A case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is being registered at the Khliehriat Police Station, and efforts are underway to trace the backward and forward linkages in this drug trafficking operation.
