Tynsong appreciate UDP’s approach, says MDA likely to meet after GHADC polls
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has appreciated the United Democratic Party (UDP)’s decision to seek the intervention of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on issues related to the power sector.
Tynsong was making a comparison between the two coalition partners – UDP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and on the approaches adopted by them while raising issues concerning the state.
“The approach (by the UDP) is right as they had written a letter to the CM and not anybody else unlike the BJP who sent letters to the CBI and the Press but not to the CM,” the deputy chief minister told reporters on Thursday.
The UDP in its letter submitted on March 22, had urged the Chief Minister to relieve the Power Minister James K Sangma and the CMD of MeECL, Arun Kumar Kembhavi from their current positions.
The UDP has alleged that ongoing serious financial bankruptcy and other financial and administrative mismanagement in the power department has plunged the state into an unprecedented power shutdown, affecting normal life.
Asked if a meeting of the MDA coordination committee would be convened to discuss the issue, Tynsong however said the decision will be taken after the Chief Minister, who is currently campaigning in Garo Hills for the upcoming GHADC polls, is back in the state capital.
“…we have to take cognizance of the letter written by the UDP to the CM as the approach is right. So for that matter, let us wait till CM is back in Shillong as right now he is busy with election campaigning,” he said.
According to him, the chief minister may take a call to convene a meeting of the MDA after April 12.
Moreover, the deputy chief minister also said that the UDP president and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh had already stated that he would convene an internal meeting of his party to discuss the issue.
“Therefore, let the meeting be held first, let them sit down among themselves because even among themselves also there is some kind of confusion…of course I don’t know much as I am not from UDP,” he said.
Tynsong however rejected the allegation that the Congress has any hidden role on the issue raised by the UDP and said, “Why should we blame the Congress? Congress is playing its role as opposition and it is their duty to find fault whether the government is doing well or not…”
