U-15 Inter District Cricket: West Jaintia Hills win by innings and 19 runs against East Jaintia Hills
West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association defeated East Jaintia Hills DCA by an innings and 19 runs in their U-15 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2023 Zone 1 match in Umbuda, Ri-Bhoi on Tuesday.
In Zone 2, in Williamnagar, the match between South Garo Hills DCA and West Khasi HIlls DCA ended in a draw but the former took the points based on having had a first innings lead.
EJH were skittled for just 20 in their first innings and WJH were on 12/1 at stumps on Monday. Not out overnight, Player of the Match Eshan Siangshai and Maremdorkini Sutnga made 79 for the second wicket. Sutnga was out for 36 and WJH went on to declared on 120/6, with Siangshai, the eventual Player of the Match, unbeaten on 52. Siyon Sangma was the best bowler for EJH, taking 4/35.
EJH had to make at least 100 runs to force their opponents to bat again but, while they did put on a better show with the bat in their second innings, were all out for 81. Opening batter Rohit Panday top-scored with 30, while Namewanki Pakyntein claimed a brilliant 5/18 and Redolent Shadap 2/10.
In the other match, SGH were all out for 184 yesterday and WKH responded with 140 all out today. Dabetbhalang Kharjana (59) and Andrew Starfill Rani (47) were the main contributors for WKH but their team mates were not able to offer enough. Jyeipara A Sangma (3/18) and Christwar S Marak (3/29) were the most successful bowlers.
With a lead of 44, SGH then went on to declare in their second innings on 239/8 in just 31 overs, made possible thanks to a fantastic century by Christwar, who struck 15 fours and 10 sixes in an innings of 136 from 96 deliveries. With the ball, Arwanmeki Lyngkhoi scalped 5/64.
Only 15 overs were possible for WKH, however, and they finished on 47/1, meaning that the match ended in a draw.
