UDA in KHADC nominates Blah for election to chairman post on Feb 7
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has unanimously decided to nominate Mawphlang-Diengiei MDC Lamphrang Blah for the post of Chairman, election of which is slated to be held on February 7.
The decision was taken following the resignation of Pyniaid Sing Syiem from the post on January 31.
“We have unanimously decided to nominate Blah as the candidate for the chairman post,” KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne told reporters after chairing the meeting of the UDA on Thursday.
He said Blah will be submitting his nominations on Friday.
Blah thanked Syiem and the UDA partners for extending their support to him. It may be mentioned here that Blah left the Congress and joined the NPP in October last year, and unsuccessfully contested the bye elections to Mawphlang Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress has decided not to field candidate for the election to the post of chairman.
This was informed by the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) leader Pynshngain N Syiem after a meeting held on Thursday evening.
“We have been informed about the UDA’s decision to field Blah for the chairman’s post. Therefore, as a mark of respect to him being a senior member of the council, we have decided to support his candidature,” Syiem said.
