UDP announces 1st list of 3 candidates for GHADC polls
The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced its first list of three candidates for the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), to be held on April 9.
The announcement was made during a meeting held at Baghmara, South Garo Hills district on Saturday.
UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh attended the meeting to kick start the campaigh for druming up support for the party candidates.
Also present were minister Kyrmen Shylla, MLA Samuel Sangma, vice president Allantry Dkhar, general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, adviser BG Momin, working president LC Momin and others.
The three candidates include Diana N. Marak who will be contesting from 2 Wagesik, Jadush M Sangma from Ringrikimgre and Devier M. Sangma from Gasuapara.
The meeting was presided by District President SGH Julius Sangma.
Earlier in a meeting at Williamnagar, the State Election Committee decided that the last date for receiving application for contesting the GHADC elections will be on or before the 23 February 2021.
All the speakers spoke on the need and importance to elect quality leaders to bring about the much needed change in the governance and administration of the GHADC which has come under serious criticism from different quarters on the functioning and the corruption issue.
The speakers also reminded the people that the UDP which is an offshoot of the APHLC which spearheaded the Hill state movement unitedly will once again make effort to bridge the relationship between the different major tribes of the state and try to articulate the dreams and aspirations of the indigenous people of the state. The UDP is hopeful that it will open its account once again in the Garo hills sector
