UDP issues showcause notices to 2 MDCs for supporting UDF in KHADC
SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has sought an explanation from its two MDCs for their decision to extend support to the Congress-backed United Democratic Front (UDF) executive committee in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The decision to showcause the two MDCs – Paul Lyngdoh and Teiborlang Pathaw – was taken at an emergent meeting chaired by the party chief and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh here on Monday.
Lyngdoh and Pathaw have decided to ditch the UDP-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) by extending full support to the executive committee led by Independent MDC from Nongthymmai Latiplang Kharkongor.
After the meeting, UDP general secretary Jemino Mawthoh told reporters that the party has decided to issue showcause notices to the two MDCs.
“We have asked them to reply to the showcause notices within 24 hours,” Mawthoh said.
Asked, he said, “Let us give an opportunity to these MDCs to give their point of views on their decision to shift allegiance.”
Mawthoh said the party will then examine the clarification of the two MDCs before taking necessary action against them.
The general secretary however refused to comment on a question if the action by the two MDCs is seen as an act of backstabbing against the party. “I will not comment on that but we as a party we feel disappointed as we want to restore the stability in the KHADC,” he said.
