UDP MLA files nomination from Sohiong-Nongspung, says no misunderstanding within the family
United Democratic Party (UDP) legislator from Sohiong Synsharlang Kupar Lyngdoh on Monday filed his nomination papers from Sohiong-Nongspung constituency for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) even as he emphasized the importance for the different Himas to have proper mapping and boundaries.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said that his decision to contest the ADC elections was based on the wish and desire of the people of the constituency.
The MLA also strongly refuted that there is any misunderstanding within the family following the decision of his uncle (L) HDR Lyngdoh’s son Nathaniel Rymmai to contest the election on a Congress ticket,
“There is absolutely no misunderstanding within the family. It is a democratic country and anyone can fight the elections. Anybody who wants to fight let them,” he said.
Lyngdoh underscored the need to strengthen the existing laws of the KHADC and said “From the name of the constituency itself, we know that there are two Himas – Sohiong and Nongspung. There is also a branch of these Himas -Nongwah Mawtamur which shares a border with the state of Assam and which we need to ensure peace prevails in it.”
The MLA further stressed the need for grassroot governance. “I also want all Himas to have proper boundaries and mappings,” he said while loading the achievements of the UDP-led EC during its three and a half years tenure.
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “We are fully prepared to face the election as a party and we will give our best to win.”
“We cannot buy people with money and that is why we are going to the people with love and I urge the people to support my candidature so that I win the ADC elections,” he added.
The sitting legislator however refused to comment on the other political parties and said, “I respect all political parties, I have nothing to comment about them.”
