UDP urges people not get wooed by “wicked” schemes of national parties
The state youth wing of the United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday asked the people of the state not to get wooed by the “wicked” and “tainted” schemes promised and granted by the national parties prior to the 2023 assembly elections.
General secretary of the state youth wing Desmond Mawlong, said “In the name of development, big banners are set up across the city by the national parties causing nuisance to the public and also ruining the beauty of Shillong”.
“In the banners set up by different national parties, especially by National People’s Party displaying the developments done by the Chief Minister, Congrad K. Sangma in our State, but we the UDP state youth wing pose this question, how many of these developments were implemented fruitfully for the State?” he asked.
He said that the National People’s Party, who claims to work for the people, have falsely attracted and influenced the people and are going to the lengths of bribing people and other ministers with a huge sum of money.
Mawlong also referred to the claim made by cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh of getting offered for five crores to join the NPP and said, “Therefore, the UDP State Youth Wing are bemused by NPP to be able to offer huge sum of money to another minister, and has questioned the source of income for the party to be able to effort to offer and pay a person, while considering that NPP came into power after winning the previous election in 2018.”
The UDP state youth wing further questioned the Chief Minister’s travel expenditure. “Who pays for the helicopter services used by the Chief Minister when he (chief minister) goes to the opening ceremony for different schemes in the state?” he asked.
Auguste Jyrwa, Joint Chief Secretary of UDP Youth Wing said that, Chief Minister Congrad Sangma used helicopter service even when the ceremonies are held within Shillong Jurisdiction, therefore, the question lies “whether the State bear the expense of such travel or the NPP party”.
“If the party bears the expenses, we opine that the party is rich considering the source of its income comes from the people of the state”, he added.
