UKPO leader, govt official visit Assam’s Khasi villages, lead development initiatives

In a significant move to accelerate rural development and address local concerns, United Khasi People’s Organisation (UKPO) President Pynshngainlang Rattane and Block Development Officer (BDO) Rita Millickpi visited Khasi Village Dhansiri (Khasia Basti) in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. Their visit aimed to assess infrastructure gaps and facilitate the effective implementation of government schemes for the upliftment of the community.
Accompanied by Gramsevak Komol Kro, the officials interacted directly with villagers, listening to their grievances and discussing solutions to improve basic amenities, road connectivity, healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. An on-site inspection was conducted to evaluate the availability of essential resources and determine priority areas for development.
Discussions during the visit focused on welfare schemes, drinking water accessibility, and livelihood enhancement programs. Addressing the gathering, BDO Rita Millickpi assured villagers that their concerns would be taken up with urgency, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between local authorities and the community to ensure long-term sustainable development.
A remarkable moment during the visit was the overwhelming turnout of villagers, which even surprised Alien Chongloi, president of the local polling station. Expressing his astonishment, he said, “The enthusiasm and involvement of the villagers today were truly unexpected. It reflects a strong collective desire for positive change.”
Beyond Dhansiri Khasi Village, the delegation also considered the concerns of neighbouring villages, broadening the scope of planned government interventions. The visit has been widely recognized as a key step toward transformative change, with officials committing to ongoing engagement and development initiatives aimed at improving living standards for the Khasi community.
