Union minister greeted by protesters at Nongstoin
SHILLONG: Pro-Inner Line Permit (ILP) groups on Thursday staged protest during the visit of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar at Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills District over the Centre’s delay to implement ILP in the state.
Gurjar was attending the Samajik Adhikarita Shivir for distributing assisted living devices to senior citizens belonging to BPL category.
Upon his arrival at the venue, members of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organization (CoMSO) were seen waving black flags as they raised placards.
One of the placards also read – “We did not come to oppose any development, we are here to remind that Meghalaya wants ILP”.
Chairman of CoMSO, Robertjune Kharjahrin said the protest was to remind the union minister and the Centre on the ILP resolution passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and that it shoud immediately approve it.
It may be mentioned here that the CoMSO has decided to protest against all visits by central ministers to the state.
